Organizing:
International Seminar On Health Philanthropy
April 23rd, 2019
Yogyakarta, Indonesia

 PREFACE

The limited ability of state funding to fund welfare programs, particularly in the health sector, is a major problem. The foundation of the welfare state carried out by the tax system is still not strong. There is not much tax revenue by the government, including income tax from able communities. In this context, innovative ideas are needed to increase the nation's funding for welfare programs needed. One of the activities is an activity based on philanthropy which is the basis for the provision of funds by people who intend to provide funds to welfare programs, or citizens who cannot afford it.

The term philanthropy comes from Greek which means loving fellow humans. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines philanthropy as an activity in the form of giving funds and time to help the lives of others to be better. A deeper definition explains that philanthropy is an idea, activity, or action carried out on the basis of humanity and involves sacrifices, both sacrifice of time, cost, experience, skills, networks, to make the world better (LAAF, 2014). Philanthropism is a flow of thinking that exists in society based on the principles of philanthropy. The presence and the role of philanthropy in health care is becoming important in the context of financial scarcity.
